This is a hauntingly evocative work, with the light reflecting off the burnished steel in a manner reminiscent of the way in which wave-dappled sunlight scintillates across the creature’s iridescent scales in its natural habitat. Sweeney has proved a true master of his materials, and his confidence in his artistic vision allows his subject to fully inhabit this piece.
About the Artist
Originally trained as a farrier in his native Lancashire, Jason Sweeney only truly began to follow his artistic calling after a visit to Scotland and the River Tweed inspired him to take up the tools of his trade with a different aim. Since then he has established a name for himself as one of the UK’s leading wildlife artists, creating spectacular pieces in sheet steel for both public exhibitions and private commissions.
