Dimensions: 17 x 29 x 13.5 cm (6.5 x 11.5 x 5.5 in)
Artist Eddie Hallam spent an entire month living alone on the remote Scottish islands of St Kilda, during which time he had plenty of opportunities to observe puffins in the wild, and Puffin Looking Left is one of a series of puffin sculptures that he has created which have been informed by this experience.
Hallam’s close familiarity with his subject is immediately evident in this evocative piece, which captures the sea bird’s distinctive character with an assured economy of style. Cast in bronze yet with a lightness of presence that speaks volumes about the skill of the artist, Puffin Looking Left is clearly an achievement of a sculptor at the height of his powers.
