The impression of motion conveyed by the work is almost hypnotic, with the waving fronds of the vegetation seemingly frozen just for a moment - a testament to the skill of the artist, who manages to impart a lightness and buoyancy to the rigid metal that is utterly convincing. The three fish appear caught just before they’re about to spring back into frenetic motion, drifting weightless in an invisible current that Sweeney has conjured from the empty air.
About the Artist
Jason Sweeney came relatively late to sculpture, after honing his metalworking skills in his native Lancashire. A chance visit to Scotland and the River Tweed brought him the inspiration he needed to turn his talents to more aesthetic pursuits, and since then he’s been creating breathtaking wildlife sculptures for both public exhibitions and private commissions.
An avid devotee of country sports, the majority of Jason’s work features game birds and fish as its subjects, with the wild salmon being a particular favourite which Jason has made his signature piece over the years.
