About the Artist
Nicholas was born in 1962 in Bedfordshire, where he received his education. He began drawing early and was greatly influenced by his father Roland Manning an artist and jazz musician, who helped him refine his perspective and colour harmony skills.
Nicholas went on to win many awards for his paintings in his teenage years before obtaining a degree in design and venturing into the world of advertising in London. This was a short-term venture as he yearned to develop his creative and artistic talents and therefore returned to painting.
A milestone in Nick’s development came when he discovered the work of world renowned wildlife artist Ray Harris Ching. Nick recalls being completely bowled over by his oils, which he described as mini masterpieces, where the subject matter seemed so real that you could almost reach out and touch it.
Nicholas was personally introduced to Ray Ching in 1986 at the Tryon Gallery in London and was invited to attend Ray’s Studio to discuss and develop his own skills, this relationship continues to this day.
Nick’s current methods can be identified technically by a characteristic precision of craftsmanship and subtle colour. The content of his painting derives mainly from his personal experiences and convictions. Realism is the key to his work not photographic mimicry.
Nick’s work is eagerly sought and hangs in private collections around the world and closer to home with the Royal Family. He lives in Highland Perthshire where he has a studio, and also studios in England and Portugal.
