About the Artist
Born in Inverness in 1964, Ian MacGillivray has concentrated on painting sweeping yet intimate landscapes which often feature the animal he has developed a special affinity for - the red deer.
After studying for a degree in Fine Art at Maidstone College of Art, he returned to Scotland to work, drawn by its dramatic vistas and the hardy animals that call them home. Two sell out shows in a row at the Moy Game Fair secured his reputation as an up-and-coming artist to watch, while a first prize win in the British Association of Shooting and Conservation National Wildlife Artist's Competition opened new doors for him in his chosen career.
Ian's signature style comes as a result of working from oil studies and sketches made in situ, which help him capture the unique interplay of light and atmosphere which makes the Scottish landscape so changeable, dynamic and endlessly engaging.
