Ladies British Tweed Overshirt

Having led the fashion pack by creating the ladies British tweed overshirt in our very first collection, its subtle evolution means it's better than ever.

Realising that British pure new wool tweed looks as fabulous in more casual garments as it does tailored into jackets and trews, we pioneered this style of casual overshirt over two decades ago. Loved by Royal figures, this Bruar design has been much imitated, but subtle improvements keep ours ahead of the pack. With a subtly improved relaxed fit, this overshirt features rugged double stitching, practical button-flap shield pockets, button cuffs and a curved hem.

This reliable staple will look superb layered over fine polo-neck knitwear with a cord country skirt, or worn more casually over a ribbed crew neck with a coordinated baseball cap. On colder days, add a quilted gilet or layer under a boiled wool coat.

About Tweed

Tweed's humble beginnings reach back to the early 19th century when it was first hand-woven in Scotland as warm, durable work wear for crofters. When the nobility of the British Isles stayed in Scotland they adopted tweed, wearing it on their grand Highland estates, particularly for country sports. With traditional designs including checks, herringbones and barleycorns, tweed has become an icon of British and Scottish style.
