About Flannel
Flannel was first crafted by farmers from carded wool to combat the cold. It was brushed for added softness and insulation. The introduction of the carding mill during the Industrial Revolution catapulted flannel from a local craft to a global staple - even warming Union soldiers in the American Civil War. Over time, flannel became a fashion essential, from WWII military gear to the 1990's grunge scene. Today, it represents comfort and elegance, and is popular in high-end fashion and cosy home wear, where it is valued for its heritage and quality.
About Merino Wool
Known as the softest of all wools, merino is sourced from merino sheep, a breed which originated in mediaeval Spain. The fineness of wool is measured in microns, with typical thicknesses of 29 to 35 microns. Merino is usually 22 microns thick and can be much finer, explaining its sublimely soft handle. It's also a superb insulator, often used in high-performance layers for outdoor sports.
