About the Artist
Raised in Devon, James Doran-Webb learned the foundations of his trade working in his parent’s antique restoration business, quickly progressing into a fully-fledged cabinet maker by his late teens. He discovered the possibilities of driftwood as a medium in 2005, when he toyed with the idea of creating a range of driftwood furniture, however he quickly found that the natural, organic shapes of the wood lent themselves more to sculpture, and since then he hasn’t looked back.
With commissions flooding in from all over the world and a prestigious exhibit at the Chelsea Flower Show each year - where he won the Director General’s Award for the best trade stand in 2013 - James’ sculptures are finding an appreciative international audience thanks to their unmistakeable verve and vitality.
