Brought up on the West Coast of Scotland, Catherine's house looked out onto the deep, dark waters of Loch Lomond. Her father had a boat called 'Flying Fish' that he would take her out on and go fishing for mackerel on Loch Fyne, which may be where her love of the sea and sea life comes from.
From 1976 to 1978 Catherine studied drawing and painting in Florence under Nerina Simi and continued to work throughout the early '80's.
